Oops...It's been awhile...

It's been quite awhile since I've updated my blog and after a few reminders from some friendly people...I've decided to post. I don't even know if I have any readers anymore so I may be sending this out to the great unknown...

Short update:
I continue to work as a case manager in treatment foster care. It hasn't been any easy journey-- as I learn about what paperwork needs submitted when, due dates for everything, learning to work with some different and difficult people, giving advise and parenting tips, managing countless emails and phone calls and documenting every single thing. Sometimes feeling discouraged, hopeless, with no direction. Sometimes feeling like I have the upper hand and am catching on. Sometimes feeling like all the life and love I gained last year is being drained from me. Sometimes feeling great respect and appreciation for my foster families and their dedication to foster children.

I think about my old job and work at Imagine! in Colorado...sometimes I compare too much to the work I do now. And I don't think that's fair...but I also think that my year working with people who have developmental disabilities as set a small flame in my heart and feel the passion growing. I know God doesn't give us too much that we can't handle and He also leads to places for reasons. I do appreciate my job and the opportunity I have to work, in this economy. I know I am blessed and for that....I will keep working hard and share a smile with those I work with. But at the same time, I know this job isn't my calling and God is working in my heart, preparing for other great things down the road.

Since moving back to the east coast, life continues to be a journey, filled with ups and downs. I've enjoyed being much closer to family and friends, yet at the same time- still feel some loneliness. I'm learning what it means to be in different life stages from most of my friends and am finding it difficult to experience friendships with other single young adults. It's slowly becoming a reality of mine to have engaged and married friends. Which I wish them all happiness, but am in no way close to that experience. So at times, loneliness is my factor. But and this a BIG but, my boyfriend is planning a move to the great state of Virginia in a month. Having spent 10 and half months apart has not been a cake walk and I'm completely stoked to end that part of our relationship- hopefully for good. I think that has contributed a lot to this new year as well. But I'm excited for what's in store and look forward to the path ahead.

Well poof, I just lost all brain activity and can't think of what else to write...so there's my 5 month update! --Hopefully I write in a more timely fashion from now on.

Thanks if you still read this.

You know the part I like best about flying?

It's not the tiny bags of pretzels, or the person sitting behind you that smells like BO.

I love when the plane starts descending and all the tiny houses, streets, and city lights come into perspective. It kinda makes me feel like Karen Carpenter's song "I'm on top of the world". It makes me feel big and in charge for just a brief moment, as I survey the "little" things below. We are a busy people. We have created much. The glowing street lights, the bustling streets, industry, power, success.

It makes me also remember, that as I come back to normal elevation...I am a part of the madness and one of the little, intricate things that makes up part of our world. It's a bittersweet mixture of emotion to land and realize that yes, I can look down momentarily on what has been created and how it moves about. But also realizing, that I too am part of that system. That network. That beehive.

But I have also been made different and unique. I have been taught to love myself and the God who created all things. As Christians we are called to embark on a journey and not an easy one. It sets us apart from those around us. We are called. It is sometimes lonely and confusing. It is difficult at times. But it is also beautiful and rewarding. It is past, present, and future.

I don't know where I am going with my soap box or my ramblings. I had a lot of these thoughts as I was flying to and from Colorado this last weekend. It is amazing the technology and science that has led us to where we are now. And it is also fascinating to think about where we will be in even 20 years. This said, I am also excited for what is in store for the Church and us, as believers in Christ.

What neighbor, friend, co-worker needs someone to listen to them? What organization could benefit from monetary assistance? How can we have a better attitude? Where are we being called and led?

Just food for thought...something to nibble on; I will as well!

Peace,
L
